Hensworth Town Council

The Town Council was formed under the provisions of the Local Government Act 1972 and came into existence on 01 April 1974. The Town Council is a successor body to the
former Hemsworth Urban District Council, which was abolished on 31 March 1973.

Legal identity and powers
The Town Council is independent from any other local authority and remains such until abolished by statute. The Council has the power to undertake services relating to recreation and leisure for the benefit of residents of the township. The township's administrative area embraces the town of Hemsworth and the two villages of Fitzwilliam and Kinsley. To finance services provided, the Town Council has powers to precept on the Metropolitan District Council at Wakefield and, in certain approved cases, has the powers to borrow money to finance new projects.

Administration office
The administration office situated at 1 Bank Street, Hemsworth provides a public information service for Council services. The office is open from 9am until 4pm Monday to Friday and closes for lunch between 1pm and 1.30pm every day.
