Allotments There are allotment sites in Hemsworth at Grove Lane, Springfields (off Ringwood Way) and West End (incorporating Churchfields and Sandygate sites). There are also two sites in Fitzwilliam at Newstead and Wanneville (off First Avenue). The Town Council is currently in the process of upgrading the allotment service. Community Centre The new Community Centre on Bullenshaw Road / Market Street, Hemsworth is under construction. Any groups interested in hiring a room or renting office space from 2010 should contact the office on 01977 617617. Garden Scheme The Town Council’s garden scheme is provided for residents of Hemsworth, Fitzwilliam and Kinsley who are aged sixty and above and are infirm. The scheme provides free assistance with the cutting of lawns and hedges twice per year between April and October (subject to resources). Application forms are available from the administration office from February each year.
Sports Facilities The Sports Complex on Kirkby Road, Hemsworth continues to be used by local football clubs. The synthetic turf (third generation) pitch at our new facilities on Sandygate Lane, Hemsworth will soon be available to use. For more information please see our Latest News section. Celebratory Presentations The Town Council makes a presentation to residents living within the township who are celebrating an eightieth birthday, ninetieth birthday or any birthday over ninety, a Golden Wedding or a Diamond Wedding Anniversary. Anyone with details of a resident celebrating any of the above please contact the administration office or a Town Councillor.
Christmas Presentations The distribution of selection boxes to local schools and playgroups for children up to and including seven years old takes place every December. Grants Each year this Council allocates an amount of money to make donations to local organisations (Section 137). Over the past year grants have been given to: - Royal British Legion for the Remembrance Day band and refreshments
- Kinsley Boys Football Club to help with repairs following theft and vandalism to the clubhouse
- BOAR Cottage – donation to funds
If you are involved in a local organisation and would like to apply for a grant please write to the Council with details of your application and a copy of your organisation’s latest balance sheet. Please note that grants are not given to individuals. In addition to the above the Town Council has again awarded a grant of £2,000 (Section 106a of the Transport Act) towards the running costs for a Community Bus which is based at the Kinsley and Fitzwilliam Community Resource Centre. |
