Allotments There are allotment sites in Hemsworth at Grove Lane, Springfields (off Ringwood Way) and West End (incorporating Churchfields and Sandygate sites). There are also two sites in Fitzwilliam at Newstead and Wanneville (off First Avenue). The Town Council is currently in the process of upgrading the allotment service. Celebratory Presentations The Town Council makes a presentation to residents living within the township who are celebrating an eightieth birthday, ninetieth birthday or any birthday over ninety, a Golden Wedding or a Diamond Wedding Anniversary. Anyone with details of a resident celebrating any of the above please contact the administration office or a Town Councillor.
Community Hall In May 2006 the Community Hall was subject to vandalism which included arson and damage to the roof. As a result of this vandalism and further roof damage due to high winds the hall unfortunately had to remain closed as the facility was unsafe for public use. The Council is committed to providing a new Community Hall however plans are very much in the early stages. Garden Scheme The Town Council’s garden scheme is provided for residents of Hemsworth, Fitzwilliam and Kinsley who are aged sixty and above and are infirm. The scheme provides free assistance with the cutting of lawns and hedges twice per year between April and October (subject to resources). Application forms are available from the administration office from February each year.
Sports Complex Developments for the Sports Complex are still being debated. The District Valuer is working closely with this Council and will ensure the legality and also value for money for the benefit of the township on any future use of this site.
Grants Each year this Council allocates an amount of money to make donations to local organisations (Section 137). Over the past year grants have been given to: - Royal British Legion for the Remembrance Day band and refreshments
- Kinsley Boys Football Club to help with repairs following theft and vandalism to the clubhouse
- BOAR Cottage – donation to funds
If you are involved in a local organisation and would like to apply for a grant please write to the Council with details of your application and a copy of your organisation’s latest balance sheet. Please note that grants are not given to individuals. In addition to the above the Town Council has again awarded a grant of £2,000 (Section 106a of the Transport Act) towards the running costs for a Community Bus which is based at the Kinsley and Fitzwilliam Community Resource Centre.
